Charlie, there was a series of photos taken of the same aircraft, with various American personnel, that was sold on ebay not too long ago. I think most of the American personnel that posed with the aircraft were mechanics. Possibly this SPAD was landed on an American airfield by the French pilot, or the mechanics were getting experience serving with the French escadrille.
